Located in southern Montgomery County, just northwest of Washington DC, Bethesda, MD is one of the most affluent and highly educated communities in the United States with a population of 63,374.  Ranking first on’s 2012 list of top-earning American towns with its median income for a household in the CDP was $117,723 and a family’s $168,385.  Males earning $84,797 where females income was $57,569 (estimated for 2007).  In 2014, it placed first in Forbes list of America’s most educated small towns. 79% of its residents 25 or older have bachelor’s degrees and 49% have graduate or professional degrees.  In April 2009, Forbes ranked Bethesda second on its list of “America’s Most Livable Cities.  In October 2009, based on education, income, health, and fitness, Total Beauty ranked Bethesda first on its list of the U.S.’s “Top 10 Hottest-Guy Cities.”

Bethesda Home to Bethesda Naval Hospital

Bethesda is the home of the Bethesda Naval Hospital (Bethesda Naval Medical Center), a tri-service military medical center.  It is one of the most prominent U.S. military medical centers in the United States, having served numerous U.S. presidents since the 20th century. The location was determined by Franklin D. Roosevelt and he made a formal dedication at it on November 11, 1940. The original Naval Medical Center tower was listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior.  The National Institutes of Health (NIH), is also located here, being the nation’s medical research agency and a part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Strathmore Music Center and Mansion
